Bingyi: Dawns Here Are Quiet
Curator: Eric C. Shiner
Ethan Cohen Fine Arts is pleased to present Bingyi's first solo
exhibition in New York "Bingyi: Dawns Here Are Quiet."
Bingyi is an emerging young talent who has been featured in three solo
exhibitions this year alone: "Home: Recent Paintings by Bingyi"
(Beijing, China) curated by Minglu Gao, "Dawns Here Are Quiet" at the
University of Buffalo Art Gallery, and at Ethan Cohen Fine Arts. Her
approaches toward the specific history and reality of China, her
interest in ancient Chinese mythology and visual allusion to classical
texts such as The Classics of Mountains and Seas and Peony Pavilion,
and her reference to the problematic nature of many contemporary
social issues such as sexuality and liberalism mark her paintings as
strong visual documents of a culture in flux.
